World Cardmaking Day 2018 (Bonus Post)

Hey guys and gals! Yesterday was a fun day in the papercrafting world, it was World Cardmaking Day. Don't worry if you have never heard of it, I only discovered it a couple of months ago. I decided to go online and see what could be found about this obscure holiday and I discovered that it was created by Paper Craft Magazine in 2006 and is held annually on the first Saturday in October.

In order to celebrate, I decided to finish a large group of cards that I had started working on awhile back but never got around to finishing. I had previously cut an entire 8.5 x 11 patterned paper pad into 4.25 x 5.5 inch rectangles in order to be used on cards.

I spent the entire day cutting, gluing (with double sided tape), stamping and sorting so that I could finish off this large batch of cards. I even got to use up some of my ENDLESS supply of Project Life cards (I swear that those cards have a way of multiplying when I am not looking). In the end I had about 150 finished cards (I made 4-6 of each card design).

Because I made so many cards of different types (birthday, friendship, encouragement, etc.), I decided to also make some boxes so that I could sell the cards in sets. I put eight different cards into each box so that each box would contain a variety of different occasions.

Wow, it was a LONG day of crafting. I didn't finish until around 3 o'clock this morning, my back is KILLING me but at least I got a lot accomplished!

Let me know if you are interested in purchasing one (or more) of these fun boxed sets. Email me at thesweetscrapper@gmail.com

Masculine Card of Confusion

I made this card several years ago and thought that it looked pretty cool, until my mom asked me what occasion this card would be given to someone for...and I drew a blank. I have no idea what occasion would be befitting, maybe an new driver? or an over the hill card? Let me know if you can come up with a good reason for this card. But, even if it doesn't have a purpose I still like it and I will definitely have to do the inside stamping with the wheels again because it looks pretty cool.

Dad's Birthday Lines Card

Good Morning blog readers. It is time for another masculine birthday card. Monday is my dad's birthday and as usual I needed to make him a card and I have been stumped for days on what to make. Usually when I am stuck on what to do I head on over to Pinterest for a while until inspiration usually strikes, but this time I decided to do something a little different. I decided to clean out my scrap drawer for three reasons, one as way of distracting myself from the task at hand. Two, because it needed to be done and this month seemed like the prefect time to do it since most of my cards have been centered around using up products found around my craftroom. And, thirdly in hope that some of my scraps would be the inspiration that I needed. Lo and behold I got lucky. I found some great masculine cardstock strips leftover from a get well card I made in June. Since I didn't get a chance to share the card back in June and I need a card for my dad I thought, why reinvent the wheel, I would simply reuse the card design. I did end up changing one or two small things but in the end the only large difference is in the sentiment. I definitely need to keep this in mind. Maybe it is time to revisit some of the card designs that I have used in the past, and try to revamp them into new cards for different occasions.

Happy Birthday Dad!!

Many Mower Birthday's

I am back once again with ANOTHER masculine birthday card. Boy my name must be butter cause I am on a ROLL. I know, I know I am soooo not funny but at least I try. This card makes masculine card number three for this month.

I mentioned in Friday's post that I had recently got a new set of stamps that came with a magazine. While I was making Friday's card and looking over the images in the stamp set, I got inspired to make this card. I knew that the mower image would pair perfectly with the grass border punch that I have from Fiskars, and it does. I adhered the grass to the stamped panel and then popped the entire thing up with foam tape so that the grass border would really stand out.

I am really liking this stamp set, and the magazine has some great inspiration for ways to use the stamps as well.

Smokin' Birthday

It is Friday once again....my favorite day of the week! Tomorrow morning we are once again headed out of town to get away and do some SHOPPING. Hopefully I will get to buy some new Fall outfits, since my closet is severely lacking in that department.

I don't remember if I mentioned it in last week's post or not but we went out of town last weekend as well to celebrate my birthday (which was the weekend before). We did a little bit of shopping then, too. One of the stores that I went into was a Books-A-Million. We don't have one where I live, and I found a crafty magazine that was speaking to me, Creative Stamping magazine (from the UK) issue 46.  I have included a picture of the stamp set that was included.

Since today is another family birthday I thought I would go ahead and bust out these new stamps, after-all they were already on my desk and they have several images that just scream 'masculine birthday card'!

Motorcycle Birthday

I mentioned in last weeks post about a website called Aliexpress that I have completely fallen in love with for buying dies and stamps. Well, today's card features another die that I purchased from there.

While browsing the thousands of dies on the website about a month ago, I came across this really cool motorcycle and knew that it would be perfect for making masculine cards. And for my uncle's birthday which was yesterday. So, I knew that I would be needing a card.

As each day has passed since I placed the order, I hoped that it would arrive in time. Alas, as if the postal service knew, the die arrived in my mailbox yesterday morning, just in time for me to complete this card before my uncles surprise party on Sunday.

Oops don't tell anyone, I'm pretty sure that he doesn't read my blog but in the off chance that he does, sorry that I ruined the surprise.

*Sorry the picture isn't the best- I forgot to take a picture before giving it to my uncle, so I had to quickly sneak a photo at the last minute.

EDIT: He was totally surprised and he loved the card.

Pool Table Card

Hey guys, I am back today with Father's Day card number two, the one that I created for my dad.
As I mentioned in Tuesday's blog post, my dad and my grandpa enjoy different things so often times making two separate cards is the way to go so that each one can get a Father's Day card that is personalized just for them.

Now, most masculine cards tend to fall into a few select categories: Sports, Tools, Food or simple layered cardstock. Trying to come up with the right kind of card can be tricky if the intended recipient simply isn't interested in most of these elements. This is the problem that I typically run into with making cards for my dad. So, when I ran across a card that was made to look like a pool table (something that I know he enjoys and that we used to play together when I was young), I fell in love.

It took me a while to figure out the sizing of each element and how I wanted to lay it out but once it was completed it looked even better than I had imagined that it would.

***Hey friends, on a side note: if you could please include my best friend's husband Ryan in your prayers it would be greatly appreciated. He was admitted to the hospital last Saturday (the 17th) and then took a turn for the worst and was moved to the ICU on Tuesday. Thank You.

Golf Ball Father's Day

This past Sunday was Father's Day so I wanted to make a couple of different masculine cards. Each year I make a Father's Day card for my Dad and also one for my Grandpa. Since they are both so different in the types of things that they enjoy most of the time I try to make a different card for each of them, one that reflects their individual likes.

Today I want to share with you the card that I made for my Grandpa. When it comes to my grandpa, he has MANY things that he enjoys. He likes golf, bowling, baseball, fixing things, etc. His many interests making cards for him slightly easier, since there are many different things to choose from. The hard part is that I have to come up with two separate ideas within days of each other since his birthday is also in June and has been known to fall on Father's Day itself.

As you can tell by the title of this post, I decided to stick with a golf theme for this card and I like how simplistic the overall design is.

It's Your Birthday...Have a Ball

Today is my amazing grandpa's 92nd birthday! Can you believe it? I hope that I am as active and ornery as he is when I am that age. One of the things that my grandpa and I share in common is our enjoyment of bowling. And, up until last year my grandpa was on a senior's bowling league with his brother, sister-in-law and a friend of theirs. Because of this mutual love of bowling I try to come up with new ways to create bowling themed cards for either his birthday or Father's Day. And, when I saw this cute stamp set by Art Impressions at Michael's Craft Store, I just knew it would be PERFECT!

Father's Day Cards

While going through my pictures I discovered that I never shared this Father's Day Card from last year (2013) that I made for my amazing Grandpa. It was super quick and easy and he loved it.

This card could easily be changed into a birthday card or other sentiment. For this card I used the Cricut Wild Card Cartridge for the argyle background (found on page 33 under the Icon feature). And, the golfer which was cut from the All Sports Cartridge (image found on page 27.) The banner was cut from the Ribbon Banners set of dies by Spellbinders.

I also wanted to share with you the cards that I made for Father's day 2014. I ended up just making several of the same card to give to both my dad and my grandpa because I was rushed for time. This card was extremely simple and just uses some layer of different papers and cardstocks. I was able to use some of my scraps to make this and it could easily be replicated to fit any occasion or be made with different colors to be more feminine.
